Room Guides
Nine guides drawn from classical Hindu design principles, each with what to do, what to avoid, and remedies that need no demolition.
North-East · Eeshanya
Pooja Mandir & Water Source
ईशान्य
The most sacred corner of the house. Classical Vaastu treats a clean, open and low Eeshanya as the root of health, progeny and prosperity.
Deity · Eeshana (Lord Shiva)Jala (Water)Guru (Jupiter)
Do
- Keep the North-East lowest in floor level and lightest in construction.
- Place the Pooja Mandir here, with the devotee facing East or North while praying.
- Locate the borewell, well or underground sump in the North-East.
- Keep large windows and open space here so the morning sun enters freely.
- An extended (Eeshanya perugudu) North-East corner of the plot is considered highly auspicious.
Avoid
- No toilets, septic tanks, kitchens or staircases in the North-East.
- Never cut or truncate the North-East corner of the plot or house.
- Avoid heavy furniture, cupboards, overhead tanks or storerooms here.
- Do not keep footwear, dustbins or junk in this corner.
- Avoid a raised platform or mound in the North-East.
Remedies
- If a toilet exists in the NE, keep it spotless and place a bowl of rock salt that is changed weekly.
- Fix a copper Vaastu pyramid or a Sri Yantra on the NE wall to balance a defect without demolition.
